Does safe mode on windows vista work to reset the administrator password?

I forgot my administrator password on windows vista and I read somewhere to re-boot the computer using f8 to reboot in safe mode and then hit start and run, ect to reset the password. I tried that and was unable to, it still required the original password. Does the secret work for windows vista or am I missing a step? If it does work, can you please tell me how to do it step by step.|||No safe mode backdoor has been shut on Vista.

Try this, people seem to think it works, though I have never tried it. Follow the instructions carefully, as it involves what sounds like a fairly risky process.

If this doesn't work for you, you can try something that costs money.|||User Jsncrlo is right. I just had the same problem, where my wife's vista password stopped working. I went to the website, and ran the program that was on the link, and after about 15 minutes of working through the instructions, i was able to clear her password, and restore her account.

Thanks alot

|||Going into safe mode will not do anything for you about the password,,,,,,,if you forgot the password,,,,,,s***

when you set the password,,you could have made a password reset disk,,,,I bet it asked you,,,,so if you did not,,,

guess what,,,,,,you will be reinstalling vista,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Hope you have a OS disk or recovery disk and the

motherboard support drivers,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,|||Sorry guys but jsncrlo is right. The passwd applic really works on Vista passwords, but only for users. I've already tested it and it unlocked my account.

You must download the CD boot ISO, record it to a blank CD, and just boot it in your PC.

It has support for SATA and can unlock and reset any user account and password.

CU|||there is no way of just going around a password...thats what they are there for. if it were that easy to bypass a password it would be easy for hackers to get into your system.

you have to re-install windows to get a fresh system
