How do I re-activate a game on steam without knowing the original username/password?

I'm trying to transfer a copy of a Steam game from one PC to another. I have the original disc and product key, but since the product was previously activated on another PC it brings up a duplicate key error when I try to activate it online on this PC.

I can't use the original username/password from when it was first installed as I don't know them, and I can't use the forgotten password reminder as I don't have access to the email account that it is linked to (It was several years ago, and it was an old hotmail account).

How to I go about re-registering/activating the game to a new user account on a new PC?|||You can't. Also there is no way that I know to re-activate a game anyway. The only way you can play with that copy of the game is if you can enter that old account.

We just don't know.

You might want to get into your BIOS and just check to see if they have a password in there for Admin or User and see if it might be the same for your Windows login.

Usually on a Dell you press the F12 key after you turn on your computer. If that key doesn't work, reboot and try F8 and if not that try the F2 key.

Do a search for your make and model as you can probably find a good message forum or other information to help you here.

Your best solution though, as already mentioned, is to reformat the hard drive and then install XP from your CD and start out fresh.

Your computer will probably run faster and remove a lot of junk and maybe some other password protected areas too.

You must download the CD boot ISO, record it to a blank CD, and just boot it in your PC.

If possible I would also encourage you to change other settings too:

* Change the SSID to something else. Devices ship with the same default SSID, making it easier for folks to find it, including unwanted users like your neighbor.

* Turn off SSID broadcast. This prevents the modem/router from announcing itself, again makes it harder for your neighbor to find it. (alternatively, wait until you update your devices to use the new password, THEN turn broadcast off. Your devices will still work.)

* Use WPA2 (if supported) and a good password like "I like daisies 2!!!!!!!!!" easy to remember, hard to guess.

You will need to reconfigure all your computers, laptops, etc. that use your home's wireless connection to use the new SSID and password you entered.

You can boot to an OS X install DVD and go past the first screen, to select main language. Then under the Utilities menu (or Installer menu on older versions), choose "Reset password" and then select your account name, not "Administrator".

If you don't have any install disc, you really need to buy one. It is like driving without a spare tire. In the mean time, look in the Users folder for the name of your home folder. Write it down and follow these steps:

1. Boot into single user mode (press Command-S at power on)

2. Type fsck -fy

3. Press Return

4. Type mount -uw /

5. Press Return

6. Type launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.鈥?br>

7. Press Return

8. Type dscl . -passwd /Users/username password (replacing "username" with the targeted user ((name of your home folder)) and "password" with the new password)

9. Press Return

10. Type reboot

11. Press Return

Last resort: delete a file called ".AppleSetupDone" (the dot makes it a hidden file in UNIX). Then when you restart, the Mac will open the same setup program that appeared when your computer was new. You can create a new account from scratch. After you are logged in as the new admin user, you can go to System Preferences %26gt; Accounts and reset the password of your old user. That's a bit inconvenient but, in theory, nothing is actually lost. Then you can log out, login as your old user. Then you can go back to System Preferences %26gt; Accounts and delete the new user.

To delete this secret file, restart and hold two keys together: Command key (鈱? and the "S" key. That starts the Mac in "Single-user mode". You'll know you are seeing single-user mode because the screen will fill up with white geeky text on a black background. Release the two keys when you see this. Wait until the last line says "sh-2.05a#" or something similar. Then go ahead with the steps below. Don't type the " marks and be careful to type the spaces in "/sbin/mount -uw /".

Type "/sbin/mount -uw /"

Press Return. (Nothing appears to happens, no problem. Also, you will see # again. That's fine; ignore it.)

Type "rm /var/db/.applesetupdone" (The normal format of Mac OS doesn't care about upper case.)

Press Return.

Type "reboot"

Press Return. (Now stuff appears to happen. You will finally get past the "Welcome" in a dozen languages and then you can create a new admin user. It should be a different short name from your old user. A few screens later, you come to the registration. Just choose "later". It doesn't come back later to nag.

After you have completed the new user, open System Preferences %26gt; Accounts and delete the old user. It will put all old user's data into a disk image and put that into a "Deleted Users" folder. If you don't need that old user data, trash the disk image.|||Did it come with disks?

hope this helps|||I am assuming what you are saying is that you are having to reenter it on your laptop/pc every time you turn it on so that it reconnects. there are a few reasons for this but the simplest to say is that for some reason your machine network connections isnt saving it. The simplest way to fix the problem is to reinstall the network, as you now how to change the WPA password also change the SSID, when you reconect to the new SSID name your computer should ask you (if its vista or above) to enter the Passphrase and then to confirm the type of network. once you do it should store it again permanently.

This is something i have come accross before and the SSID usually fixes it, the alternative is to go into system settings and delete your wireless card and reboot, the system will reinstall it but wipe out any network settings it used to have so to start again.

Here are the facts...

The only group owner we had passed away a year ago. We didn麓t had a group co-owner at the time. So now were stuck with the group as he left it before his final journey.

The owner is the only one who can pass the group to another.

Most commonly the advice given is to get copies of all the files, calendar entries, and photos, and simply start a new group. =(

12. Now simply pick the account you need to change and remove or change your password as you prefer. If you want to log on without having to enter your new password, you can type control userpasswords2 at the prompt and choose to log on without being asked for password. After you’ve made your changes close the windows, exit the command box and continue on with the Repair (have your Product key handy).

13. Once the Repair is done, you will be able to log on with your new password (or without a password if you chose not to use one or if you chose not to be asked for a password). Your programs and personalized settings should remain intact.

It works like this: You insert a DVD that brings up the parental lock password screen. Then press "SELECT" on the controller and enter 7444.

Entering the number alone won't help. You need to press Select before.

The exact procedure is also in your PS2 instruction manual.|||yep. 7444 should do it, it did with mine.|||Enter 7444 as the password.

This will reset the parental lockout in the event that you forget the original (of course, if the kids know it, then there's no way to keep the parental controls set).

This cannot be retreived unless you have another Administrator account. If you have another admin account, you can disable the password or change the password without even having to know the other accounts original password (confirmed in both WinXP and Win2K). If you don't have another admin account, you cannot get your password back.

Also, you won't be able to find out what the password is. You can only modify it. I don't know of any working cracks to the password. You can try hacking c:\windows\system32\config\SAM by using LoginRecovery. It's the only one of its kind. It claims to crack the password in 15 minutes. However, you'll need another account to even access the SAM files. (I've never tried this, so it's up to you to find out.)

If you're talking about the "default administrator password" that's installed on the computer, it's usually a blank password of zero characters (aka ""). The default administrator password is set when WinXP is first installed (not activated, i meant installed). It cannot be changed.

If you just reboot it, no, but if you hold in the reset button for 10 seconds it will return to original factory password settings.|||to answer correctly I would ask you for more details as to what router you are enquiring about, and I would also like you to state whether you mean you are rebooting the router or Reseting it to factory defaults, if its the latter it is likely that the router password and or IP address it resides on wil change if you have indeed changed the settings from their factory defaults.|||It returns to the default password as shipped from the vendor. Is there a way to change a password if original was forgotten?

ive been away for a while and cannot remember my password on my laptop Toshiba notebook. Is there a way to get around it to reset to a new one?|||Windows XP automatically creates a user account on your computer called "administrator".

Shut your computer off. Then you turn it back on. While it is booting up, you keep tapping the F8 button.

That will eventually bring up a menu (don't worry if your computer starts beeping at you every time you push the F8 button... that is normal.)

On that menu that comes up, you will choose to start the computer in "Safe Mode". (use the arrow keys on the keypboard and choose Safe Mode, then hit enter.)

If another menu pops up, hit enter again... and let windows start booting into safe mode.

Eventually, a list of users will come up. Click on "administrator".

When you get all booted up into the "adminstrator" account, simply go to the control panel, double click on "users", find the account you want and click on it.

Then choose to change the password.

You can change the password to anything you want on the next screen WITHOUT knowing the old password... Remember, you are now in the hidden "administrator" account that has the power to do this.

Once you have the new password changed and saved, shut down your computer again.

Now start it back up and you'll be able to get in the account you changed the password on with no problem.

This will work 90% of the time.|||there usually is a forgotten password but if not you could try calling the company or tech support they maybe able to help you out
